  • Object-oriented - a programming technique that focuses design on the data (=objects) and on the user interfaces to it.
  • OCR - Optical Character Recognition. Technology used to identify characters in a digitised document.
  • ODBC - Open DataBase Connectivity. Standardised interface, or middleware, for accessing a database from a program.
  • PDF - Adobe Acrobat's Portable Document Format.
  • PHP - a server-side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language that lets you create dynamic web pages. PHP-enabled web pages are treated just like regular HTML pages and you can create and edit them the same way you normally c reate regular HTML pages.
  • Pixel - Dots on a computer monitor. The resolution on a computer monitor is measured in dots per inch or pixels per inch.
  • PNG - Portable Network Graphics - a lossless image compression format designed to replace GIF.
  • PPP (Point to Point Protocol) - a direct connection to the net from your computer, via modem and phone line.
  • Public domain - software is available for unrestricted use, and can be copied freely and even renamed and resold.
